Next Round’s On Me
Golf is the perfect vehicle for conversation.
Next Round’s On Me began with a simple observation:
Golf is the perfect vehicle for conversation.
With a few drinks and a shared task to focus on, conversation flows freely. It’s no wonder that people from all walks of life flock to courses on the weekends, willingly paying hundreds of dollars for a game that they proudly claim to suck at.
We set out to capture the beauty and camaraderie of mediocre golf, and did just that in this 5 episode limited series.
For the series premiere of Next Round's On Me, host Jimmy Andreotti golfs at his home course, Quashnet Valley in Mashpee, MA. While a typical episode features Jimmy golfing with a celebrity guest, this episode is all about him.
In Episode 2 of Next Round's On Me, Jimmy not only golfs with his first guest, former "Motionless In White" keyboard player and Serial Entrepreneur Josh Balz — he puts his body on the line. It’s an electric episode culminating in a high stakes bet: the loser has to get a tattoo of the winner’s initials.
Next Round’s On Me goes international! For episode three, Jimmy Andreotti and the team traveled across the border to Canada to film with Jacob Rolfe who plays Jacob Collins on Netflix’s hit show “Trailer Park Boys”.
This production of this episode was incredibly special to me. I got to work with an actor from my favorite TV series of all time. I left the country for the first time in my life. And we made the episode with a small crew entirely made of friends and family.
In the season 1 finale of Next Round’s On Me, Jimmy puts what he has learned thus far to the test and tries to break 100 (50 on a 9-hole course) with last minute guidance from an ancient golf guru phantom. Will he break 100? Will the camera crew survive? There is only one way to find out.
Interesting bit about this episode: on the 8th hole Jimmy smashed a drive directly into my arm. Thank god I didn’t have a very quick reaction time, because if I did I would have missed one of the best shots of my life.
In this special post-season episode of Next Round's On Me, Jimmy golfs with the #1 rated blind golfer in America (and the #4 in the world!), Mario Tobia. Throughout the episode, Jimmy learns about the process of golfing while blind, about Mario and his two incredible coaches, about his own golf swing, and — thanks to a special challenge from Mario — what it's like to golf blind. This episode highlights what the series was all about. Golf is a game that connects people. It’s not about the performance, it’s about enjoying the game with people you love.
Like Bagger Vance says, it’s a game that can’t be won- only played.
